N-(3-Chloro­phen­yl)maleimide

چکیده

The title compound, C(10)H(6)ClNO(2), has a dihedral angle of 46.46 (5)° between the benzene and maleimide rings. A short inter-molecular halogen-oxygen contact is observed, with a Cl⋯O distance of 3.0966 (13) Å. Both CO groups are involved in two C-H⋯O inter-actions, which gives rise to sheets parallel to (100). In addition, these sheets exhibit a π-π stacking inter-action between the benzene and maleimide rings [mean inter-planar distance of 3.337 (3) Å].

The title compound, C(21)H(23)ClN(2)O(2), was synthesized from N-amino-α-terpinene maleimide and 2-chloro-benzaldehyde. There are two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit which are linked via an inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The crystal studied was found to be a partial merohedral twin, with a 0.74 (7):0.26 (7) domain ratio.
